Local Services and New Board Members Announced for Year-End
As the year draws to a close, various local services in Clatsop County will be affected by the New Year’s Day holiday. On December 30, 2025, it was announced that all federal, state, and county offices, including U.S. post offices, will close on Thursday, January 1, 2026, with no mail delivery on that day. City offices in Astoria and Warrenton will also be closed on New Year’s Day, while Seaside city offices will close early at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
Additional closures include Gearhart city offices, which will remain closed on both Wednesday and Thursday, and Cannon Beach city offices, which will be closed from Thursday through Friday. Schools within the Astoria, Jewell, Knappa, Warrenton/Hammond, and Seaside districts, as well as Clatsop Community College, will not hold classes on January 1 and January 2.
Library and Community Services Impacted
The Astoria Library and the Warrenton Community Library will be closed on New Year’s Day. The Seaside Library is scheduled to close at 3 p.m. on December 31 and will not be open on January 1. The Port of Astoria offices and services will also be unavailable on the holiday.
Despite the holiday closures, garbage collection services provided by Recology Western Oregon and the city of Warrenton will not be disrupted. However, Recology’s transfer station will close at 2 p.m. on December 31 and will remain closed on New Year’s Day. The Sunset Pool in Seaside will be closed on January 1, while the Aquatic Center will operate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on December 31, before closing for New Year’s Day.
Several local attractions, including the Clatsop County Heritage Museum, Oregon Film Museum, Flavel House, and Carriage House, will also be closed on both December 31 and January 1. In contrast, Fort Clatsop will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day, and the Columbia River Maritime Museum will welcome visitors from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m..
New Leadership at Clatsop Care Center and Transportation District
In addition to the holiday announcements, the Clatsop Care Center Health District is seeking applicants for an At-Large Board Member position. This volunteer role aims to involve a dedicated community member in shaping healthcare services throughout Clatsop County. Responsibilities include attending monthly board meetings, participating in committees, and engaging in strategic planning.
Meanwhile, the Sunset Empire Transportation District has appointed three new commissioners. Dr. Penny York fills Position 1, while Matthew Stolberg from Astoria takes Position 5. Clatsop County native Kathleen Teeple, who resides in Seaside, fills Position 7. These officials will serve for two years, with their positions up for election in May 2027. Their duties include setting policy, adopting the annual budget, and overseeing the district operations.
As the community prepares for the New Year, these updates highlight essential changes in local governance and services, ensuring residents are informed and prepared for the upcoming holiday.
