Doc Rivers Surpasses George Karl on NBA’s All-Time Wins List
In a significant milestone for his coaching career, Doc Rivers achieved his 1,176th victory in the NBA as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks secured a 123-113 win against the Charlotte Hornets on December 30, 2025, marking Rivers’ ascent to sixth place on the league’s all-time coaching wins list. This victory was propelled by impressive performances from Bobby Portis, who scored 25 points, Giannis Antetokounmpo with 24 points, and Myles Turner, who contributed 23 points.
This latest triumph not only signifies a successful season for the Bucks, who have now achieved 14 wins, but also elevates Rivers past George Karl in the rankings. He now trails only Pat Riley, who holds the fifth position with 1,210 wins. Rivers’ career win percentage stands at .585, reflecting his extensive experience in the league over 27 seasons as a head coach.
Rivers’ Journey in Coaching
Despite being recognized for his playoff struggles—most notably, being the only coach to lose three separate 3-1 series leads—Rivers boasts a commendable coaching résumé. He has participated in the playoffs 21 times, securing 114 postseason victories and leading teams to the NBA Finals on two occasions. His crowning achievement came in the 2007-08 season when he guided the Boston Celtics to an NBA championship.
Rivers’ accomplishments have sparked discussions regarding his potential induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. As his win total continues to grow, many anticipate that his legacy will be solidified regardless of future playoff outcomes. The Bucks coach has already made a significant impact, with accolades that set him apart from other top coaches in the league.
Looking Ahead
As Rivers aims to further ascend the all-time wins list, attention will focus on how many more victories he can accumulate before concluding his coaching career. With his extensive experience and proven track record, the basketball community remains optimistic about his future contributions to the sport.
The NBA recognized Rivers’ achievement in a tweet, celebrating his rise to sixth on the all-time coaching wins list. The Bucks and their fans are eager to see how Rivers will leverage his experience to drive the team forward in the current season.
