New Health Tech Unveils Multi-Function Thermometer for Home Use
A revolutionary health monitoring device has entered the market, promising to transform how individuals track their well-being at home. The newly launched BeamO thermometer, developed by health technology company Withings, has received FDA approval and is now available for purchase at a price of $249.95. This innovative device offers more than just temperature readings; it combines three essential health tools into one compact gadget.
The BeamO merges a thermometer, stethoscope, and electrocardiogram (ECG) into a single handheld unit. This design allows users to take important health measurements quickly and efficiently, without the need for a doctor’s visit. The thermometer function operates in mere seconds, and rather than traditional methods of measuring temperature, users can simply glide the device across the forehead to the temple, minimizing the risk of germ transmission within the family.
Streamlined Health Monitoring
In addition to temperature readings, the BeamO features a stethoscope that allows users to listen to their heart and lung sounds by placing the device against their chest. Furthermore, the ECG functionality simplifies the process of obtaining heart health data, eliminating the cumbersome requirements typically associated with hospital visits. Within just 30 seconds, users can achieve a medically certified ECG, with results displayed on the device’s LED screen.
This capability is particularly valuable for proactive heart health monitoring. The ECG can help detect potential issues early, especially for those experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, heart palpitations, or shortness of breath. The ability to conduct these assessments at home is a significant advantage for many individuals.
According to Paul Buckley, Director of Sales and Marketing for Withings in the Americas, the BeamO is aptly referred to as the “thermometer of the future.” He explained, “It takes the most fundamental and universally understood action—checking a fever—and layers other critical health measurements, all in one sleek, user-friendly device.”
Enhanced Health Tracking and Accessibility
The BeamO works in tandem with the Withings app, enabling users to log health data for their family, track trends, and share comprehensive medical reports with healthcare providers. This holistic approach offers a contextual view of one’s health. For an additional $10 per month subscription to Withings+, users in the United States and Europe can also receive a remote cardiac health assessment conducted by a cardiologist within 24 hours.
The introduction of this device is timely, particularly during the winter months when viral infections, such as the flu, are on the rise. Buckley noted that having access to timely health data can assist doctors in better assessing respiratory conditions.
The BeamO is designed to benefit a wide audience, with particular advantages for parents of young children and older adults. Buckley emphasized that the device allows parents to swiftly obtain medical-grade measurements to share with pediatricians, especially during late-night emergencies. This capability can help alleviate anxiety and reduce unnecessary trips to emergency rooms.
For older adults, routine monitoring of heart and respiratory health is crucial, especially for those over the age of 50 or with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions. The BeamO provides a means for frequent health checks, contributing to better overall management of health as people age.
As the demand for accessible health technology continues to grow, the BeamO stands out as a forward-thinking solution that empowers users to take charge of their health in the comfort of their homes.
