Join the Dry January Bar Crawl in Philadelphia This January
The Northern Liberties and Fishtown neighborhoods of Philadelphia will host a unique event aimed at promoting mindful drinking during the month of January. The inaugural Dry January Bar Crawl is scheduled for January 17-18, 2026, inviting residents and visitors to explore a range of non-alcoholic beverage options at over two dozen participating venues.
As Dry January gains popularity as a health initiative, many individuals find it challenging to maintain their commitment to abstaining from alcohol while enjoying social outings. The Dry January Bar Crawl seeks to address this by offering a vibrant selection of mocktails, zero-proof cocktails, and other non-alcoholic drinks at local bars and restaurants.
Crawling Through Creativity
The event is organized by the Northern Liberties Business Improvement District and the Fishtown District. Executive Director Sydney Rexroad expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing the opportunity for participants to experience innovative drink creations from some of the city’s best establishments. “We are excited to kick off 2026 with our close friends in Fishtown for a post-holiday reset,” Rexroad said. “The Dry January Crawl features non-alcoholic drinks from some of the best bars and restaurants in Philadelphia. It’s a great opportunity to see a different side of creativity from your favorite spots.”
The two-day crawl will include a diverse array of hospitality venues offering specially priced beverages. Many participating locations will host happy hours, typically from 11:00 to 16:00 and 12:00 to 17:00, with some establishments featuring extended hours for additional offerings. This initiative aims to celebrate the growing trend of zero-proof beverages without compromising on fun or flavor.
A Focus on Inclusivity and Wellness
The goal of the Dry January Bar Crawl extends beyond just the month of January. It encourages participants to embrace non-alcoholic options throughout the year. Marc D. Collazzo, Executive Director of the Fishtown District, highlighted the significance of the event as a way to reset after holiday indulgences. “This is the perfect way to start 2026 and reset after holiday indulgence with the dynamic drink creations from the best restaurants and taverns in the region,” Collazzo stated.
Participating establishments will offer at least one specially priced mocktail or non-alcoholic beverage, with prices set at $6, $8, and $10. Some venues may enhance the experience with added bonuses, including food pairings, games, and special events. This approach is designed to showcase the diversity and creativity of non-alcoholic offerings in Philadelphia’s hospitality scene.
According to Nikki Graziano, founder of Bar Palmina, Philadelphia’s only zero-proof craft cocktail bar, there is an important distinction between mocktails and zero-proof cocktails. Mocktails usually consist of syrups, juices, and sodas with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 0.0, while zero-proof cocktails utilize complex non-alcoholic spirits and bitters, offering a balance similar to traditional alcoholic drinks, with an ABV ranging from 0.0 to 0.5 percent.
“It’s important to consider your non-drinking guests because it falls under great hospitality,” Graziano explained. “I created Bar Palmina two years ago because it wasn’t being widely embraced in Philly yet. I’m glad that that’s slowly changing, but we still have a very long way to go.”
The Dry January Bar Crawl not only aims to provide enjoyable beverage alternatives but also to foster an inclusive atmosphere for all patrons, regardless of their drinking preferences. With increased awareness, the event hopes to inspire a shift in how non-alcoholic options are perceived in the city’s vibrant social scene.
