Boys’ Game: Windom Edges Worthington 54-52

In a thrilling boys’ matchup, the Windom Eagles narrowly defeated the Worthington Trojans with a final score of 54-52. The game was tightly contested, with the Trojans given several opportunities to take the lead in the dying moments. With just 2.7 seconds left on the clock, Windom maintained a two-point advantage, and Worthington was unable to capitalize on their final attempts.

Windom’s early lead was challenged when the Trojans mounted a remarkable 12-0 run, leveling the score at 30-30 by halftime. Elliot Meyer emerged as the standout player for Windom, scoring a remarkable 27 points. He was supported by Henry Visker with 11 points and William Skarpohl contributing 5 points. On the opposing side, Caleb Meyer led Worthington with 14 points, followed by Isaiah Schroeder with 12 points and Treyson Meinders with 8 points.

The Trojans will look to bounce back in their next game against Waseca on Friday, while Windom prepares for a boys/girls doubleheader against Pipestone on the same day.

Girls’ Game: Windom Dominates Worthington 92-51

In the girls’ game, the Windom Eagles showcased their strength with a commanding 92-51 victory over the Worthington Trojans. Senior Anja Nielsen was the star of the match, scoring an impressive 28 points and sinking eight three-pointers, all in the first half. Windom established their dominance early with a staggering 25-0 run.

In addition to Nielsen’s performance, Haidyn Sammons contributed 18 points, and Brita Tjentland added 15 points. Worthington, despite the loss, showed resilience by outscoring Windom 29-20 in the second half, with Claire Schultz leading the Trojans with 11 points.

Windom will face a challenging Pipestone team next, while the Trojans will head to New Ulm, seeking to improve their record.

Other Games: Close Calls and Heavy Losses

In another close contest, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda edged out Murray County Central with a score of 41-39. Sophomore Lauryn Handel made a crucial shot in the lane with just three seconds left, securing the Coyotes’ victory. Handel finished the game with 11 points, alongside Ashton Reierson, who scored 13 points and also contributed significantly to the team’s defense.

On the ice, the Worthington Trojans suffered a tough defeat against Fairmont, falling to a 2-11 record this season. The Trojans managed only one goal from Dominic Pavelko in a match that ended 8-1 in favor of Fairmont. Worthington will aim to regroup during their next home game against New Ulm.
