Vail Christian Football Triumphs Over Soroco in 42-8 Victory
Vail Christian demonstrated a commanding performance on October 6, 2023, defeating Soroco with a decisive score of 42-8. This victory marked the Saints’ second consecutive win, improving their season record to 3-2. The team’s success was largely attributed to a powerful ground game and an aggressive defensive strategy.
Asher Morris led the Saints’ offense with a total of 68 rushing yards and one touchdown. Colt Burkley also made significant contributions, scoring twice during the game. Head coach Tim Pierson highlighted the team’s defensive prowess, noting that they accumulated 175 rushing yards as a unit, forced six turnovers, and made critical stops on fourth-and-1 situations.
The game did not start in Vail Christian’s favor; Morris threw an interception on the first offensive play. However, the defense quickly responded by forcing a turnover on Soroco’s next drive. Sid Towle caused a fumble that was recovered by Hayden Sample, shifting the momentum back to the Saints. This pivotal play allowed Burkley to score on a 12-yard run shortly thereafter.
Defensive Dominance and Scoring Surge
Senior player Sawyer Willis was instrumental on both offense and defense, scoring on a 10-yard run while also recording an interception and forcing a fumble. Morris contributed further by causing another fumble, while teammates Finn Hooper and Elijah Beckett each secured an interception.
Vail Christian quickly built a substantial lead, finishing the first quarter with a 22-0 advantage. The Saints scored the game’s first 42 points before Soroco managed to score on the last play of the match.
Next, Vail Christian will face Mancos, a team currently holding a record of 4-1, on October 11, 2023.
