Family and friends of Ben Anderson, who was murdered on New Year’s Eve 2021, are still seeking answers as they approach 2026. Anderson, aged 41 at the time of his death, was found in the desert near New River, Arizona, shortly after he had cancelled brunch plans with friends. The circumstances surrounding his murder remain unresolved, and despite significant developments in 2025, no arrests have been made.

Susan Dzbanko, a close friend of Anderson, expressed the emotional turmoil faced by those left behind. “It’s been four years, which is very hard to believe,” she remarked, reflecting on the ongoing uncertainty. Dzbanko noted the difficulty of reconciling the reality of Anderson’s death with the feeling that it is all a nightmare. “In some moments it seems like it’s happening in my brain, and in other moments it seems like it never happened at all,” she added.

The investigation into Anderson’s death has seen some progress. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reported that charges have been submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO). Dzbanko highlighted the frustration felt by Anderson’s loved ones, stating, “It’s gut-wrenching to know that we’re so close, we’re so close, and yet here we are again at the end of another year without anything actually happening.”

Anderson’s body was discovered hours after he missed a gathering. His vehicle, a Lexus, was later found burned in a Phoenix parking lot, and months afterward, his mobile phone was located in a nearby canal. The MCSO confirmed that one suspect, Jaden Kaufman, is currently incarcerated for manslaughter. However, the status of the other suspect remains unclear, and the MCSO has only disclosed charges against Kaufman, which include first-degree murder, robbery, and arson.

Dzbanko shared her immediate reaction upon hearing about the suspects. “My immediate reaction was, I don’t know who these people are,” she said. The community remains anxious as they await updates on the case. Inquiries made to the MCAO this week revealed that the charges submitted are still under review.

While grappling with their grief, Anderson’s friends continue to hold onto cherished memories. “He was the life of the party,” Dzbanko recalled. “Whether he knew you for a minute or your whole life, you just felt like his best friend.” Her commitment to seeking justice for Anderson is unwavering. “The fact of the matter is, while there are suspects who have been named, charges have not been brought, and our work is not done.”

As 2026 approaches, those close to Anderson remain hopeful for resolution. The investigation continues to weigh heavily on them, as they strive to uncover the truth behind his tragic death. The MCSO did not provide any additional updates when contacted for comment. Anderson’s case was previously featured in an episode of the streaming series Arizona Crime Uncovered, bringing further attention to the ongoing search for justice.

As the community waits for answers, the determination of Anderson’s friends and family to seek justice remains resolute.
