Heritage Ohio Names George Sam as Inaugural Main Street Manager of the Year
The organization Heritage Ohio has awarded its first-ever Main Street Manager of the Year honor to George Sam, the executive director of Main Street Medina. The recognition took place during Heritage Ohio’s annual conference held in Canton, Ohio, marking a significant milestone for both Sam and the organization.
“It was a total surprise to me. I had no idea until the award ceremony,” Sam said, reflecting on the moment he received the accolade. He joined Main Street Medina in 2018 and became executive director in 2022. Despite the personal recognition, Sam expressed humility, acknowledging the efforts of managers from the other 40 communities within Heritage Ohio. “They are all doing such great work and are very special,” he added.
Recognizing Community Impact and Leadership
Heritage Ohio annually honors various Main Street organizations across the state, celebrating projects, places, and individuals who contribute to historic preservation and community revitalization. A press release from Main Street Medina highlighted Sam’s leadership, noting that he has guided the organization to new heights through vision, strategic planning, and a steadfast commitment to community engagement. Under his direction, the program has expanded preservation efforts and launched several impactful initiatives, including a facade grant and loan initiative, alongside significant improvements in the South Town district.
“George has led the Main Street Medina organization to new heights through vision, strategy, and an unwavering commitment to community,” the press release stated. Additionally, it mentioned that he has strengthened the organization by realigning committees and introducing tools like Placer AI to facilitate data-driven decision-making for both Main Street Medina and local businesses within its jurisdiction.
The impact of Sam’s leadership is reflected in the community’s revitalized spirit. Main Street Medina Vice Chair Amy Busby praised Sam’s contributions, stating, “Thanks to George’s guidance, Historic Medina and the South Town District are more vibrant, connected, and welcoming, with a renewed sense of pride and belonging within the community.”
Acknowledging Team Efforts
Despite receiving the prestigious award, Sam emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving the organization’s successes. “Everyone, including our board of directors, our committees, our volunteers, and staff, work so hard,” he remarked. “It really is all about collaboration and cooperation.”
As the first recipient of the Main Street Manager of the Year award, Sam’s recognition not only highlights his individual contributions but also serves to inspire others in the field of community development and historic preservation. With a focus on collaboration, Main Street Medina continues to enhance its initiatives, ensuring a sustainable future for the community it serves.
