Nancy Burns, the owner of Rebel Pilates, has established a unique wellness studio in Pearland, Texas, designed to address not just physical fitness, but also mental and spiritual health. Burns, a certified Pilates instructor, health coach, and nutrition counselor, emphasizes a holistic approach to wellness, aiming to create an environment where women can heal from various ailments.
At Rebel Pilates, clients have access to a variety of services including Pilates classes, health coaching, lifestyle guidance, and movement therapy. Burns’s journey into the world of wellness began in the early 2000s while she worked in the health care industry. Her personal struggles shaped her vision for Rebel Pilates. “I was in pain for years, but through it all, I managed to come out of the valley,” she reflected. Many clients at Rebel Pilates express frustration with their health, describing themselves as “sick and tired of being sick and tired.” Burns frequently encounters individuals seeking relief from migraines or insomnia, unaware that the underlying issues may stem from digestive problems. “I’m helping them connect the dots and get to the root causes,” she explained, demonstrating her focus on comprehensive care.
In her Pilates classes, Burns teaches women how to feel light in their bodies and to breathe effectively. She notes that some clients become aware of pain or discomfort only after participating in her classes. A significant aspect of her work involves encouraging clients not to overexert themselves during exercises.
In addition to physical wellness, Burns places a strong emphasis on nutrition and intuitive eating. This approach encourages clients to listen to their bodies’ hunger and fullness signals. Looking ahead, she hopes to introduce cooking classes as part of her nutrition counseling, believing that the quality of food directly impacts overall health.
“I’m guiding them, directing them, and opening their eyes to give them freedom: movement freedom, food freedom, relationship with their body freedom so they can learn to love themselves,” Burns shared. This philosophy reflects her commitment to empowering women through informed choices about their health.
