Cast of “Elkhorn” Explores Historic Roosevelt Ranch Before Premiere
The cast and crew of the television series “Elkhorn” visited significant historical sites in Medora, North Dakota, in anticipation of the show’s world premiere on Saturday, October 2, 2023. Their tour included key locations within the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, notably the site of the former Elkhorn Ranch, where President Theodore Roosevelt spent time during his life.
During the visit, actors Mason Beals and Elijha Mahar, who portray a young Roosevelt and his close friend Bill Sewall, respectively, stood at the location of the original Elkhorn cabin. Although the cabin no longer exists, Beals and Mahar felt the weight of history surrounding them. They were joined by respected historian Rolf Sletten, who emphasized the site’s significance, stating, “Some say this is the most sacred place in North Dakota.”
The Elkhorn Ranch, established in the Badlands, symbolizes Roosevelt’s commitment to conservation, making it an evocative setting for the series. The cabin was constructed under the guidance of Sewall and Wilmot Dow, but its absence today serves as a reminder of the shifting landscapes and legacies of historical figures.
Excitement Builds for “Elkhorn” Season 2
“Elkhorn” is a biopic series that delves into the notable events of Roosevelt’s life in the Badlands. The show is set to return to the INSP channel at 9 p.m. Eastern on October 2, 2023. Producer Gary Tarpinian describes the series as “a scripted documentary,” highlighting the blend of factual storytelling and dramatization. The trailer for the upcoming season teases several high-energy moments that promise to capture the essence of Roosevelt’s adventurous spirit.
The premiere event in Medora is open to the public, allowing fans to engage with the series in a setting steeped in its historical context. For those eager to catch up, Season 1 of “Elkhorn” is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
As the cast and crew reflect on their connection to Roosevelt’s legacy, the excitement surrounding the premiere underscores the ongoing interest in historical narratives that shape American identity. The combination of on-location filming and a compelling retelling of Roosevelt’s story is likely to resonate with viewers, making “Elkhorn” a significant addition to the landscape of historical programming.
