Will Rogers Senior Center Marks 50 Years of Community Service
The Will Rogers Senior Center in Oklahoma City is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary on November 4, 2023, coinciding with the birthday of its namesake, the renowned humorist and cowboy, Will Rogers. The festivities will take place from 11:00 to 13:00 at 3501 Pat Murphy Dr. and will offer a range of activities, including music and refreshments, all free for attendees.
Oklahoma City Parks Director Melinda McMillan-Miller emphasized the significance of this milestone, highlighting it as a tribute to the community support the center has received over the years. Established in 1974 and officially opened in 1975, the Will Rogers Senior Center was the first recreation facility in the city dedicated to senior citizens. Since its inception, it has served as a vibrant space for arts, fitness, and social activities tailored for older adults.
The anniversary event will feature performances from the Will Rogers Senior Center Garage Band and the Square Dancers, both of which have been integral to the center’s community for many years. These performances are expected to reflect the spirit of camaraderie and joy that the center has fostered among its members.
Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation continues to oversee parks, trails, and recreation centers across the city, emphasizing programs that promote health and community engagement. The upcoming celebration not only marks a significant milestone for the Will Rogers Senior Center but also underscores the ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of senior citizens in the community.
For further details about the event, residents can visit the official OKC Parks website, where additional information is available.
