National Kidney Foundation and Vantive Launch Home Dialysis Campaign
The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and Vantive, a company with a 70-year history in kidney care innovation, have launched a home dialysis awareness campaign aimed at educating patients and healthcare providers about the benefits and options available for home-based dialysis. This initiative comes at a crucial time, as more than 800,000 Americans are affected by end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), yet only a small percentage currently utilize home dialysis therapies.
Empowering Patients Through Education
Home dialysis offers patients greater control over their treatment, improving their quality of life by reducing travel burdens and enhancing autonomy. Kevin Longino, CEO of the NKF and a kidney transplant recipient, emphasized the importance of this campaign, stating, “Home dialysis empowers patients with greater control over their treatment and daily lives.” He further noted that access to information and alternatives should be standard for all patients rather than a privilege.
The campaign’s primary objectives include:
- Educating patients about the benefits of home dialysis.
- Increasing visibility and awareness surrounding home dialysis options.
- Providing tools and decision aids to help patients determine when home dialysis is safe and beneficial.
Many patients have already experienced the advantages of home dialysis. Don Knospe from Iowa shared his perspective, stating, “I have been receiving home dialysis for nearly a year now. It’s so much better than in center.” His comments highlight the positive impact that home treatments can have on patient lifestyles.
Accessing Resources and Support
To further assist patients in exploring home dialysis, the NKF has created a simplified quiz that can help individuals determine if this option is suitable for them. Interested patients can take the quiz by visiting Kidney.org for additional information and resources.
The NKF is committed to transforming kidney health and patient care. As part of its 75th anniversary celebration, the foundation is launching a bold initiative aimed at impacting 75 million lives by 2030. This campaign seeks to raise funds to support kidney health innovation, empower patients, and advocate for systemic changes in kidney care.
Vantive also plays a crucial role in this partnership, focusing on enhancing the dialysis experience through innovative digital solutions. Their commitment to improving patient outcomes is reflected in their mission to deliver therapies that seamlessly integrate into healthcare practices while extending the lives of patients.
In summary, the collaboration between the National Kidney Foundation and Vantive marks a significant step towards improving awareness and accessibility of home dialysis options for patients with ESKD. As healthcare evolves, the emphasis on patient empowerment and education remains critical in managing chronic health conditions.
