Local Resident Calls for Maintenance of Beaver Creek Roundabouts

In a recent letter to the editor, local resident Mike Mycoskie expressed concerns regarding the maintenance of roundabouts in the Beaver Creek area. Having spent over 40 years as both a visitor and property owner, Mycoskie reflected on the evolution of traffic management in the region, particularly the transition from traditional stoplights to roundabouts.

Mycoskie noted that while many in the community have come to appreciate the roundabouts, he believes some recent installations may not justify their cost. Specifically, he questioned the value of the roundabout on U.S. Highway 6 in far west Edwards, suggesting that its expense might outweigh its benefits. He also mentioned ongoing construction of medians between Beaver Creek and EagleVail, which he described as having an unclear rationale.

Call for Action on Maintenance

Despite his reservations about new installations, Mycoskie’s primary concern is maintenance. He pointed out that the roundabout outside Beaver Creek, along with the existing medians, is currently overrun with weeds and grass growth between the pavers. “It really does not look good,” he stated, emphasizing the negative impact this has on the visual appeal of the area.

Mycoskie proposed a simple solution, calling for the application of herbicides and the use of a weed eater to quickly restore the roundabouts and medians to a more attractive condition. He argued that maintaining existing infrastructure should take precedence over further construction if the maintenance cannot be ensured. “Pretty simple in my opinion… maintain them or stop building them,” he concluded.

As Beaver Creek continues to develop, community members may wish to weigh the costs and benefits of new constructions against the necessity of maintaining existing facilities. Mycoskie’s remarks raise important questions about local priorities and the overall aesthetic of the community’s infrastructure.
