A 51-year-old driver has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after refusing to take a roadside breath test. The incident occurred on October 24, 2023, in Fort Frances, where officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle exhibiting suspicious behavior.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample as requested by the officers. This refusal led to the driver’s arrest. Following further investigation, OPP determined that the driver was indeed intoxicated.

The Fort Frances resident now faces charges of both impaired operation and failing to comply with a demand for a breath test. After being taken into custody, the driver has since been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

As a matter of policy, Newswatch does not disclose the names of individuals charged when it does not anticipate following the case through to its conclusion in court.
