‘Mickey Brasch’ Producers Champion Oklahoma as Ideal Film Location

Filmmakers behind the upcoming movie ‘Mickey Brasch’ are enthusiastic about their choice of location, stating that Oklahoma offers a unique backdrop for their production. The film, which follows a struggling writer’s journey to reconnect with his family, is being shot in various locations, including Guthrie and Edmond, with filming currently taking place at the Route 66 Bowling Alley in Chandler.
On a Thursday morning, the alley buzzed with activity as a dedicated crew, including actors, directors, and extras, set up for Day 12 of their 15-day shooting schedule. The film’s screenwriter and star, Matthew Del Negro, expressed his excitement about the project, which he conceived 13 years ago. “We’ve had good luck with this crew,” Del Negro noted, reflecting on the journey of bringing the story to life.
Del Negro emphasized that the film’s location is key to its narrative. Director Blake Robbins shared similar sentiments, stating, “You can’t find this anywhere except here.” He highlighted the range of pristine locations within a five-mile radius of downtown Guthrie, which provide a distinct sense of place for the film.
With a budget of just under $150,000, the production team has set a brisk shooting pace. Actors like Kate Alpers are fully immersed in their roles, with Alpers portraying an angst-ridden teenager. “Yes, I’ve had people coming up to me all shoot long and ask, ‘Are you okay? Are you mad or something?'” she laughed, explaining that her character’s intense emotions are reflected in her demeanor.
The community’s involvement plays a significant role in the film’s authenticity. Robbins described his approach as one that integrates the local atmosphere, saying, “I like to take the community and fold the film into it.” This sentiment resonates with the crew, who believe that the local people and their stories contribute to the film’s richness.
As production continues, Del Negro is optimistic about the film’s potential. He mentioned that he is targeting a release in the fall of 2026. Funding for the project came partially from a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, which reflects a growing trend among independent filmmakers to seek community support.
For those interested in following the production’s progress, updates can be found on the film’s Instagram page. As Matthew Del Negro aptly stated, “All you can do is dream,” suggesting that the journey of filmmaking is as much about ambition as it is about artistry.
The excitement surrounding ‘Mickey Brasch’ not only highlights Oklahoma’s appeal as a filming location but also underscores the collaborative spirit of independent cinema.
