Homeless Man Charged with Murdering Pregnant Woman and Partner
A tragic incident in Melbourne has led to the arrest of a homeless man, accused of murdering a pregnant woman and her partner. The bodies of Athena Georgopoulos, 39, and Andrew Gunn, 50, were discovered in their home on the night of March 15, 2024. Authorities report that Gunn’s decapitated head was found mounted on a spike, indicating a brutal attack.
Police were called to the scene after a neighbor stumbled upon the gruesome discovery. According to local sources, the home’s exterior bore graffiti with messages such as “Karma is not a menu” and “Enough is Enough.” The police believe this was a targeted killing rather than a random act of violence.
Details of the Attack
Homicide Detective Dean Thomas stated that the suspect is known to the victims, implying a personal connection that may have led to the violence. “It does not appear to be a random attack and we are not looking for anybody else,” he said, emphasizing the targeted nature of the assault.
The suspect, Ross Judd, a 34-year-old man found barefoot and bloodied at a nearby train station, was apprehended approximately four hours after the murders. Witnesses described the scene as horrifying, with one neighbor, Ben Scott-Sandvik, commenting, “No one should have to come across what I saw down there.”
Authorities believe that a confrontation occurred between Judd and the couple, which escalated into violence. The nature of their relationship and the significance of the graffiti are still under investigation, as police look to understand the full context of the events leading up to the attack.
Community Reaction and Court Proceedings
The impact of this tragedy has resonated deeply within the community. Georgopoulos’s aunt, Petty Dilveridis, was seen distraught outside the home, lamenting the loss of her niece, who was looking forward to welcoming a baby girl in four months. “She was so looking forward to having a baby,” Dilveridis told local media.
Judd has been charged with two counts of murder and was remanded in custody following a hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court. He is expected to undergo a psychological evaluation while in jail and is scheduled to appear in court again in January 2025.
As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a couple whose lives were violently cut short, leaving behind unanswered questions and a profound sense of grief.
