The Fretliners to Bring Award-Winning Bluegrass to Animas City Theatre
The Colorado-based bluegrass band, The Fretliners, will perform at the Animas City Theatre on September 10, 2023, following their impressive victories at both the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Rockygrass earlier this year. Their triumphs at these prestigious festivals have solidified their reputation in the bluegrass scene, earning them a dedicated fan base and recognition that few bands achieve.
The concert will begin at 19:00 and will feature Alex Graf’s Bluegrass Super PAC as the opening act. Tickets are available for $20 plus fees through the theatre’s website.
The Fretliners consist of guitar player Tom Knowlton, mandolin player Sam Parks, and bass player Taylor Shuck. Their sound blends traditional bluegrass with innovative elements, reminiscent of legendary artists such as Bill Monroe and John Hartford. Winning two major competitions has energized the band, which is committed to evolving their music and expanding their audience.
Colorado has long been a hub for bluegrass and acoustic roots music, producing acclaimed acts like Hot Rize and Leftover Salmon. The Fretliners embody this vibrant music culture, drawing inspiration from their surroundings. The allure of bluegrass festivals continues to attract both musicians and fans alike, creating a community where music thrives.
Although Dan Andree, a founding member and fiddle player, has recently departed from the band, The Fretliners will perform as a quartet for the Durango show. They will be joined by banjo player Charlie Rose, known for his work with the band Elephant Revival.
The Fretliners’ journey reflects the passion and dedication found in the bluegrass community. As they take the stage at Animas City Theatre, they will not only showcase their award-winning sound but also contribute to the rich tapestry of music that continues to define Colorado’s cultural landscape.
