Sony Rolls Out Android 16 Update for Xperia 1 VII Users
Sony has begun to roll out the highly anticipated Android 16 update for its flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII. This news comes after earlier complications that temporarily halted sales of the device. Originally launched in May 2023 with Android 15, the latest update is now reaching users, as confirmed by reports on Reddit.
The firmware version associated with this update is 71.1.A.2.68, with a download size of approximately 1.13GB. Users in the European Union have begun receiving the update, although some variations in firmware numbers may occur based on region. Users have noted that the update does not include a changelog, leaving many to speculate about the changes. Notably, the security patch remains dated at August 2025, missing the latest September security update.
Overview of Changes and Features
As for visible modifications, feedback from users suggests that the most noticeable alteration is a redesigned settings application. The overall user interface appears consistent with that of Android 15, indicating that significant visual changes may not be present at this time.
The Xperia 1 VII stands out as Sony’s most advanced smartphone introduced this year. Its design closely resembles its predecessor, featuring a squarish shape without a camera hole or notch in the display. Instead, Sony opted for slightly thicker top and bottom bezels to maintain a seamless screen experience. The device is equipped with three rear cameras and a flat frame.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and comes with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Users also benefit from UFS 4.0 flash storage. The front of the device features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display that supports a refresh rate of 120Hz, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
Battery life is another strong point, with a 5,000mAh battery included, supporting 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. The device also features stereo speakers, and Sony has committed to providing four major Android OS updates during its lifecycle.
As the Xperia 1 VII continues to receive updates, users can expect enhancements that could improve functionality and security over time. With this rollout, Sony aims to maintain its competitive edge in the flagship smartphone market.
