Elizabethton Cyclones Dominate Seymour Eagles on Senior Night
On a brisk evening at Citizens Bank Stadium, the Elizabethton Cyclones delivered a powerful performance, defeating the Seymour Eagles 42-14 on October 27, 2025. This decisive victory not only marked a memorable Senior Night for 14 Cyclone seniors but also concluded the team’s regular season with an impressive home record.
Elizabethton’s offense showcased remarkable efficiency, scoring on their opening drive and maintaining control throughout the match. Freshman quarterback Brycen Blevins orchestrated the plays effectively, blending a potent running game with precise passing to keep the Eagles’ defense on the back foot. The Cyclones outgained the Eagles 356-204 in total offense, with an astonishing 262 yards coming from rushing plays.
The game began with a swift strike from the Cyclones. Junior running back C.J. Mathes dashed 21 yards for the opening touchdown, setting the tone for the evening. Seymour responded midway through the first quarter when senior tailback Josh Gilbert equalized with a 2-yard touchdown run. However, the Cyclones quickly regained momentum, as senior fullback Jaiden Wallin powered in from a yard out just before the end of the first quarter to make it 14-7.
As the game progressed, Blevins displayed composure, leading a two-minute drill that culminated in an 8-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver Justius Wallin, extending Elizabethton’s lead to 21-7 at halftime. Despite a brief resurgence from Seymour, which saw Gilbert score another touchdown in the third quarter, the Cyclones responded with two more touchdowns from Mathes, who finished with three touchdowns on the night.
The Cyclones’ ground game proved to be a dominant force, with Mathes rushing for 121 yards on 16 carries. Justius Wallin added 65 yards, and Blevins contributed additional support through the air, completing 10 of 11 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Elizabethton averaged nearly seven yards per rush, showcasing a disciplined and physical offensive strategy.
Defensively, the Cyclones rose to the occasion, limiting Seymour’s ground attack and keeping quarterback Madden Guffey under pressure throughout the game. The Eagles managed only 71 passing yards and faced multiple three-and-out situations, while Elizabethton maintained possession effectively, never needing to punt.
With under two minutes remaining, Wallin capped off the scoring with his second touchdown, running in from 4 yards out. This ensured a resounding 42-14 victory, solidifying the Cyclones’ performance on a night dedicated to their senior players who have been pivotal in the program’s success.
The final statistics underscored Elizabethton’s dominance: they achieved 17 first downs compared to Seymour’s 12, and the Cyclones’ defense was instrumental in controlling the game’s tempo. As the regular season concludes, the Cyclones look poised for the upcoming playoffs, riding the momentum of this convincing win.
