Armed Robbery Attempt in Oakland Sparks Shooting and Crash

A failed armed robbery in Oakland on March 15, 2024, escalated into a shooting incident and a subsequent car crash in Hayward, according to the Oakland Police Department. The incident began shortly before 15:00 local time at the intersection of International Boulevard and Durant Avenue, where several armed suspects confronted a security guard.

The security guard, who was also armed, responded by firing at the suspects, though no injuries were reported from that exchange. Following the altercation, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. An Oakland motorcycle officer spotted the car and attempted to stop it, but the suspects accelerated and evaded capture. Instead of pursuing them on the ground, police deployed a helicopter to monitor the vehicle’s movements.

The chase concluded in Hayward, where the suspects’ vehicle collided with another car at the intersection of Hesperian Boulevard and Turner Court. Emergency services transported three suspects, including one adult and two minors, to a local hospital. Their injuries ranged from minor to critical. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was also taken to a hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition later that evening.

The Oakland Police Department is actively searching for at least two additional suspects connected to the attempted robbery.
