Giants’ Cam Skattebo Undergoes Surgery After Serious Ankle Injury
New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo underwent surgery on October 26, 2025, following a dislocated right ankle sustained during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury occurred early in the second quarter of the Giants’ 38-20 defeat, casting a shadow over the team’s already challenging season.
As Skattebo was carted off the field, teammate Jaxson Dart rushed to offer support, sharing a moment of camaraderie that underscored the emotional toll of the situation. “That’s my boy, man,” Dart expressed, highlighting the solidarity among teammates during difficult times. “It sucks. It’s just the worst part of the game.”
Coach Brian Daboll confirmed that Skattebo had successful surgery Sunday night at a Philadelphia-area hospital. While he refrained from disclosing specific details about the nature of the injury, he noted, “All went well.” Daboll also mentioned he received messages from Skattebo after the procedure, indicating that the young running back is on the path to recovery. “He’ll be missed but is on the road to recovery… He’s got a road ahead of him,” Daboll added.
Skattebo’s injury occurred during a challenging moment in the game. After taking a hard hit while attempting to catch a pass, he fell to the ground, visibly distressed, and struck his helmet in pain. Eyewitnesses reported that his foot bent at an unnatural angle, prompting immediate concern from both Giants and Eagles players, who gathered around him until he was taken off the field. The 23-year-old had an air cast on his lower right leg as he was transported, raising his arm in appreciation to the crowd.
Daboll expressed deep sympathy for Skattebo, saying, “I feel absolutely terrible for the young man. It looked bad. You feel for anybody that goes down with a really bad injury.” This sentiment resonated throughout the team, as players grappled with the emotional impact of the injury. Dart, visibly shaken, kneeled in frustration after witnessing the incident, stating, “With him being carted off, it’s emotional.”
Skattebo had emerged as a pivotal player for the Giants this season, leading the team in rushing yards following an early-season injury to Tyrone Tracy Jr.. Prior to the incident, he had accumulated 398 rushing yards and five touchdowns, including three rushing touchdowns against the Eagles earlier in the month. His contributions had infused the team with optimism, especially following a previous victory over the Eagles where both Skattebo and Dart had standout performances.
The Giants’ season has been fraught with challenges, now compounded by Skattebo’s injury. They currently sit at 2-6, a disappointing record that follows a historic collapse against the Denver Broncos, where they blew an 18-point lead in the final six minutes of the game. The loss to the Eagles was particularly difficult, especially given the context of the team’s recent struggles.
Offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor expressed hope for Skattebo’s recovery, suggesting, “Hopefully it’s one of those things like a clean break that’s a lot easier to recover from.” As the Giants prepare for the upcoming weeks, the team must regroup and find a way to move forward in the absence of one of their key players. Dart, who completed 14 of 24 passes for 193 yards and one touchdown in the game against the Eagles, reflected on the emotional toll of the season, stating, “It’s frustrating because I felt confident coming into this game.”
As the Giants navigate the remainder of the season, the focus will be on supporting Skattebo in his recovery while also addressing the challenges that lie ahead for the team.
