Hotaru Sushi, a family-owned restaurant known for its traditional sushi, is set to open a new location in San Antonio. The eatery will join the diverse lineup at Make Ready Market, located at 203 8th Street, just a short walk from the popular River Walk. This expansion marks the second location for Hotaru Sushi, which currently operates only in the Dominion area.

Owner Rebecca Thang expressed enthusiasm about the new opportunity, stating, “We heard about Make Ready Market and we went to take a look at the location. It’s in Downtown… we just thought sushi would be such a great addition.” The market already features several other tenants, including the recently opened ice cream shop Spooniverse, the Tex-Mex restaurant Teka Molino, and Thai Bird.

While the new location will not offer hibachi, Thang indicated that it will focus on providing prepackaged, grab-and-go sushi options. “We’re not going to have hibachi because of the way the market is made,” she explained. “But we’re looking forward to expanding this kind of style.” This move reflects a growing trend towards convenience in dining, particularly in urban areas where quick meal options are in demand.

For those unfamiliar with Hotaru Sushi, the restaurant prides itself on its commitment to quality. According to the company’s website, “Our sushi chefs are trained in the traditional methods of sushi making, using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients.” In addition to sushi, the menu includes a range of Japanese dishes such as teriyaki, tempura, and noodles, catering to both sushi enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

The new location is expected to open later this month, adding to the culinary diversity of San Antonio’s vibrant food scene. For the latest updates on the opening, interested customers can follow What Now San Antonio on Facebook.

With this expansion, Hotaru Sushi aims to bring its authentic flavors to a broader audience, positioning itself as a convenient and quality dining option in the heart of San Antonio.
