Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Duluth Resident Scott Shoberg

Scott Carl Shoberg, aged 53, passed away on September 14, 2025, in Duluth, Minnesota. His death has left a significant impact on the community, where he was known for his vibrant personality and deep care for those around him. Born on July 11, 1972, to Stephen Charles and Susan Kay (Erickson) Shoberg, he dedicated 20 years of his life working for the State of Minnesota before becoming disabled in 2019.

Described as having a larger-than-life presence, Scott had a unique ability to connect with people. Friends and family noted that he could light up a room, making anyone he met feel instantly at home. He was known as the goofy grandpa and uncle, beloved by children and adults alike. Many remarked that Scott was one of the kindest individuals they had ever encountered.

Scott had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities such as fishing and hunting. He cherished spending time in nature and with family and friends, often relishing simple pleasures like going out for meals. His infectious smile and warm demeanor will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda K (Prause) Shoberg, as well as his parents, Stephen C and Susan K (Erickson) Shoberg. His siblings include Paul S. Shoberg, Cory, and Trudi P (Shoberg) Albert. Additionally, he is survived by his step-children, Mandy Lindner and Dan Lindner, grandchildren Madison, Ethan, and Olivia, as well as several nephews and nieces.

Scott was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Vernon C. and Dorothy Shoberg, and maternal grandparents, Carl A. and Grace A. Erickson.

In recognition of the compassionate care Scott received, his family expressed gratitude to Hilltop Healthcare Nursing & Rehabilitation, Essentia Health Hospice, and medical professionals including Dr. Gary Beaver and NP Sara McCumber from Essentia Health Neurology.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a charity or individual of the donor’s choice. Visitation will be held on September 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Duluth Cremation Society of Minnesota/First Memorial Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM on the same day.

Scott Shoberg’s legacy of kindness and humor will continue to resonate within the Duluth community, a testament to the life he lived and the relationships he fostered.
