Her contributions to the lives of family and friends were profound, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her. Marilyn’s life was marked by love, faith, and a deep commitment to her community.
Early Life and Career
Born on August 10, 1934, in Newton, Iowa, Marilyn was the daughter of Lewie W. and Violet E. (Smith) Schultz. After graduating from Newton Senior High School in 1952, she began a career as a medical secretary for the Maytag Company in her hometown. This role was just one aspect of her multifaceted life.
On August 31, 1956, she married Duane E. “Tuff” Walker in Reasnor, where they built their life together. Marilyn became well-known in the community, especially for her involvement in local softball games, where she fostered friendships and created unforgettable memories.
A Life of Service and Faith
Marilyn found joy in gardening, nurturing her flowers with the same dedication she extended to her loved ones. As a devoted grandmother, she took pride in attending her grandchildren’s games, concerts, and school events, rarely missing a significant moment in their lives. Her commitment to family was unwavering.
Her spiritual life was equally important. A faithful prayer warrior, Marilyn prayed daily for family and friends, providing them with comfort and strength through her steadfast faith. She was actively involved in the United Methodist Women and the Choose To Lose program. After the closing of her church in Reasnor, Marilyn was welcomed into the Monroe United Methodist Church, where she continued to express her deep faith and build community.
Marilyn is survived by her son, Kevin (Janell) Walker; daughters, Janna (Lance) Diekema and Connie (Jary) Hoskey; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, who passed away on May 31, 2001, and her daughter, Regina Sue Walker.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to MercyOne Hospice, particularly Jenna and Connie, for their compassionate care during Marilyn’s final days.
