Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 Reigns Supreme Among Carbon Plate Shoes

Running enthusiasts have a new champion in the world of carbon plate running shoes: the Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3. After testing a total of 17 different carbon plate shoes this year alone, I have found this model to deliver an exceptional combination of speed and efficiency. With advancements in technology, the competition among brands has intensified, making it increasingly challenging for any single shoe to stand out. Nonetheless, the Fast-R 3 has proven to be a standout performer in 2025.

The excitement surrounding the Fast-R 3 is backed by scientific research. A study conducted by the University of Massachusetts revealed that this shoe improves running economy more effectively than other leading models, including the Nike Alphafly 3 and Adidas Adizero Pro Evo 1. Running economy refers to the amount of energy expended to maintain a certain pace. When I tested the Puma Fast-R 3 just a week before the London Marathon, my experience was promising. Some runners may find the Fast-R 3 too aggressive or unstable, opting instead for a more comfortable option like the Hoka Rocket X3. For my preferences, however, the Fast-R 3 is currently unmatched, with the Asics Metaspeed Sky Tokyo being its closest competitor. I have yet to race a marathon in the Asics model, which could sway my opinion, given that the previous version, the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris, was my favorite.

Availability of the Puma Fast-R 3 tends to be limited, with stock frequently selling out quickly. Additional releases are anticipated in August, September, and October 2025, meaning runners interested in this shoe should keep an eye out for new drops.
