Florida State University freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard is making significant strides in his recovery after being shot in the back of the head. Pritchard was released from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital on Thursday and has since transitioned to Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville for further rehabilitation. His condition is described as “alert, responsive and able to communicate,” marking a hopeful phase in his recovery journey.

The incident occurred following the team’s season opener in August 2023. At the time of the shooting, Pritchard was reportedly dropping off an aunt and a child outside an apartment complex when he was ambushed. Mark Glass, Commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, confirmed last month that Pritchard was “not doing anything wrong” during the incident.

Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the shooting, which Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young categorized as a case of mistaken identity. The investigation has drawn significant attention from both local authorities and the public, highlighting the ongoing concern over gun violence.

In a heartfelt statement, Earl Pritchard, Ethan’s father, expressed gratitude for the support received during this challenging time. “I am so thankful for everyone who has prayed for my son,” he said. He reflected on the emotional rollercoaster experienced over the past 39 days, emphasizing the remarkable moment of leaving the hospital with his son.

The Florida State community has rallied around Pritchard and his family, with FSU head coach Mike Norvell frequently visiting the hospital to offer support. Pritchard acknowledged Norvell’s presence as a source of comfort, stating, “His players and staff have continued to make us feel part of the team.” He noted how meaningful these gestures have been during such a trying time.

The university has urged the public to continue their support for Pritchard and his family as they navigate the recovery process. As he embarks on this next stage at Brooks Rehabilitation, the focus remains on healing and regaining strength.

While the legal proceedings regarding the shooting continue, the emphasis now is on Pritchard’s rehabilitation and the positive steps he is taking towards recovery. The community’s support, coupled with the dedicated medical care he is receiving, provides a foundation for hope in the days ahead.
