Filmmaker Zack Snyder has shared his favorite photograph of Ben Affleck as Batman, offering fans a glimpse into the creative process behind the scenes. The photo, which was shared on Snyder’s Instagram account, features Affleck in his iconic Knightmare outfit, a significant piece from the DC Extended Universe.

Since Snyder joined Instagram last month, he has been actively posting behind-the-scenes images from his films, including Sucker Punch and Man of Steel, along with updates about his current project, The Last Photograph. In his latest post, Snyder described the image as “one of my favorite Batman photos,” noting that it was taken with his Leica Monochrom camera. He also mentioned that the set was specifically constructed for these portraits.

Behind the Scenes of Snyder’s Vision

The “portraits” Snyder refers to played a crucial role in promoting his director’s cut of Justice League, which debuted on HBO Max in 2021. While the Knightmare costume is prominently featured in the promotional material, it appears in the film only during a climactic dream sequence in which Affleck’s character, Bruce Wayne, envisions a dystopian future.

Snyder’s work on the DC Extended Universe includes three major films: Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021). Collectively, these films form what is often referred to as Zack Snyder’s Justice League Trilogy. Despite a dedicated fan base advocating for Snyder to complete his five-film narrative arc, both DC Studios and Snyder have shifted their focus to new projects.

New Directions for DC Studios and Snyder

Recently, DC Studios rebooted the DCEU, introducing a new shared universe that features a different portrayal of Superman, played by David Corenswet, rather than Henry Cavill. This new direction also aims for a brighter visual tone, distancing itself from the darker themes prevalent in Snyder’s films.

Meanwhile, Snyder has transitioned to Netflix, where he directed the zombie heist film Army of the Dead and is currently working on the Star Wars-inspired sci-fi duology titled Rebel Moon. His upcoming war drama, The Last Photograph, is expected to be smaller in scale compared to his previous works.

For those interested in Snyder’s vision for the DCEU, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is available for streaming on HBO Max. The creative insights shared by Snyder through social media continue to engage his fans and provide a deeper understanding of his filmmaking journey.
