New Footage Unveiled for IT: Welcome to Derry at NYCC

Fans of horror are in for a treat as new footage from the upcoming series IT: Welcome to Derry was revealed at New York Comic Con (NYCC). This prequel to the widely acclaimed IT films is set to provide deeper insights into the terrifying origins of one of literature’s most notorious villains, Pennywise. The series is slated to premiere on October 26, 2023, on HBO and HBO Max in the United States, with an airing on Sky and NOW in the UK the following day.
The footage showcased by GamesRadar+ journalist Lauren Milici revealed chilling scenes that delve into the lore surrounding Pennywise. Set 27 years prior to the events of IT: Chapter One, the narrative introduces audiences to a time before Bill Denbrough and the Losers Club confront the malevolent clown. Instead, viewers will witness a new cast of characters grappling with the ancient evil that haunts the town of Derry.
In one notable scene, viewers see Dick Hallorann, portrayed by Chris Chalk, who is familiar to fans of Stephen King’s The Shining. Hallorann, depicted here before his encounter with the Torrance family, is shown aboard a military plane alongside Major Leroy Hanlon (played by Jovan Adepo) and Cpt Pauly Russo (Rudy Mancuso). As Hallorann navigates through a surreal environment filled with military chaos, he encounters disturbing imagery, including toys and dolls falling from a towering pile, which sets the tone for the horror to come.
Another tense moment involves Leroy and Pauly in a sewer, weapons drawn, where they face an illusory version of Leroy’s wife, Charlotte (played by Taylour Paige). This scene heightens the suspense, as Pauly realizes that Charlotte is a figment of his imagination, underscoring the psychological terror that permeates the series. Leroy’s quick thinking warns Pauly to trust nothing they see, adding an element of urgency to their dire situation.
This new chapter in the IT saga promises to explore the dynamics of adult characters confronting Pennywise, diverging from the traditional narrative of children facing the clown. The involvement of Hallorann’s character raises intriguing questions about how his psychic abilities might aid the group in combating the malevolent force that has terrorized Derry for generations.
As anticipation builds for the show’s release, fans are eager to witness the chaos and horror that IT: Welcome to Derry will bring. The series not only aims to expand on the rich tapestry of King’s universe but also seeks to offer fresh perspectives on familiar characters. With its premiere just around the corner, the excitement surrounding this new addition to the horror genre is palpable.
