Tina Fey Returns to SNL, Delivers Sharp Impression of Kristi Noem
Tina Fey made a notable comeback to Saturday Night Live (SNL) on March 16, 2024, delivering a pointed impression of Kristi Noem, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. This surprise appearance, alongside her longtime collaborator Amy Poehler, who portrayed Attorney General Pam Bondi, captivated audiences in the iconic Studio 8H.
Stepping into the role of Noem, Fey approached the scene wielding a large automatic weapon, immediately drawing laughter with her line, “That’s right, it’s me. Kristi Noem. I spell my name with an I because that’s how I thought it was spelled.” The comedic sketch highlighted Fey’s ability to blend humor with political commentary, a hallmark of her tenure on SNL.
Fey’s Commentary on Immigration Enforcement
Fey’s portrayal included sharp jabs at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. She quipped that ICE agents are often “army or police rejects,” suggesting they take dubious supplements from gas stations and could not be trusted with basic responsibilities, such as holding keys. This humor not only entertained but also sparked discussion regarding the agency’s hiring practices and effectiveness.
The episode marked Fey’s first regular appearance on SNL in nearly a year, although she briefly joined in a cameo alongside Martin Short in December 2024. Fey and Poehler previously co-hosted SNL in 2015, showcasing their enduring chemistry and comedic rapport.
Fey’s return to SNL demonstrates her continued relevance in the entertainment landscape and her ability to engage with pressing political issues through satire. As audiences respond to her performance, it is clear that her comedic voice remains a significant part of the national conversation surrounding governance and social issues.
This latest episode serves as a reminder of the power of comedy in addressing serious topics, highlighting how SNL continues to provide a platform for commentary on the contemporary political climate.
