Meredith Music Festival Unveils Star-Studded Lineup for 2023
The Meredith Music Festival has revealed its lineup for the highly anticipated 33rd edition, scheduled to take place from December 5 to 7, 2023. Leading the impressive roster are TV on the Radio, Perfume Genius, and Colin Hay. This annual event, held in the regional town of Meredith, is celebrated as one of Australia’s most prestigious music festivals, known for its diverse programming and communal spirit.
This year marks the return of the New York City art rock band TV on the Radio after a ten-year hiatus from Australian stages. The festival will also feature the Down Under debut of J-pop sensation Atarashii Gakko! and the return of Perfume Genius, whose previous performances have garnered critical acclaim. Other notable acts include the frontman of Men at Work, Colin Hay, the acclaimed soul trio Thee Sacred Souls, and U.K. rapper Pa Salieu.
Diverse Lineup and Unique Festival Culture
The Meredith Music Festival prides itself on curating an eclectic mix of musical talents. Alongside the international stars, there is a strong representation of local artists, including Folk B–ch Trio, Mildlife, RONA, Radio Free Alice, and Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice, among others.
Tickets for the festival are accessible only through a ballot system, which is open until 10:33 PM AEST on August 19, 2023. This unique approach to ticket sales reflects the festival’s commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.
The Meredith Music Festival has a rich history, having started in 1991 as a modest gathering for around 200 attendees. Over the years, it has evolved into a significant cultural event, attracting renowned international acts such as Kraftwerk, Jamie xx, Liam Gallagher, The Breeders, and Billy Bragg. Organizers describe the festival’s transformation as an “experiment in propagation,” stating, “What was planted one year harvested the next. The spirit of ‘91 preserved and evolved, an epigenetic mutation that’s retained the original strain of DNA.”
Commitment to Community and Respect
In addition to its diverse lineup, the Meredith Music Festival is known for its “no d–khead policy,” which has been in place since its inception. This policy emphasizes mutual respect and care among attendees. As stated on the festival’s website, “In part it means looking after yourself and others. Just as importantly, it means treating each other with respect.”
With its rich musical heritage and a strong focus on community spirit, the Meredith Music Festival continues to be a hallmark of Australia’s festival landscape. As the festival approaches, excitement builds for what is sure to be a memorable celebration of music and camaraderie.
