The third season of Sullivan’s Crossing culminated in a startling revelation when Maggie’s past caught up with her. During the season finale, Cal, portrayed by Chad Michael Murray, discovered that Maggie, played by Morgan Kohan, has a secret husband named Liam, introduced by Marcus Rosner. This unexpected twist has left fans buzzing about the implications for the central love story.

The season, which began streaming on Netflix in August 2025, hinted at Maggie’s complicated relationship with Liam early on. She described him to Lola, played by Amalia Williamson, as a summer fling from her past, encountered during a trip abroad. Their romance had fizzled out before Maggie completed medical school, and letters she exchanged with Liam revealed her decision to prioritize her career over their relationship.

As the season progressed, the focus shifted to the evolving bond between Maggie and Cal. They navigated various challenges, including Cal’s emotionally charged reunion with his estranged father, who was battling a terminal illness. Despite their growing connection, Maggie hesitated to deepen their relationship, a fear rooted in her unresolved feelings for Liam.

In a pivotal moment towards the season’s conclusion, Maggie and Cal shared a tender moment by the campfire. It was then that a guest revealed himself as Liam, shocking Cal by declaring himself Maggie’s husband. This cliffhanger left viewers eager to learn more about Liam’s role and how it will affect Maggie and Cal’s relationship.

Kohan reflected on the surprise twist in an interview with Swooon, stating, “I remember hearing a little bit about Liam early in season 3. I didn’t know they were married.” She acknowledged that Maggie’s reluctance to commit to Cal might stem from her past with Liam, adding, “It makes a lot more sense, for sure, for her to be more hesitant.”

As the audience anticipates how this revelation will unfold, Kohan noted she still lacks insight into Liam’s backstory and what it means for Maggie’s future. “There’s gonna have to be a few conversations had between Maggie and Cal,” she explained. “It’s going to be a trust thing to have to build up again because that is a pretty big thing to leave out.”

Showrunner Roma Roth has also teased the impact of Liam’s arrival on the dynamics between the characters. “There’s never a dull moment at Sullivan’s Crossing,” Roth shared with Collider. “A romance drama series needs to have push and pull between your characters, and we’re going to have a pretty big shoe drop at the end of the season that we’ll get to see play out in season 4.”

Reflecting on the narrative direction of season 3, Roth emphasized the theme of “second chances.” She explained, “These characters have been through a lot over two seasons. We wanted to give them an opportunity to explore love.” The showrunner aimed to balance emotional depth with lighter moments, stating, “Because we’re dealing with a lot of emotional issues, we wanted to have some lightness and levity this season, by giving people a reprieve and having them have some hope and positivity in their lives.”

Fans can look forward to further developments in the storyline, as Sullivan’s Crossing has been renewed for a fourth season. Previous seasons are currently available for streaming on Netflix, keeping audiences engaged with the evolving narratives of love, loss, and unexpected surprises.
