Guy Fieri Undergoes Emergency Surgery After Set Accident
Guy Fieri is recovering after an unexpected accident on the set of his new series, Flavortown Food Fight. The 57-year-old Food Network host experienced a serious fall when he slipped down a flight of stairs, resulting in an emergency surgery to address a significant injury to his leg.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Fieri described the incident, stating, “[I] slipped down a set of steps, and one foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold.” He elaborated on the severity of his injury, noting that he suffered a rare tear in his quadriceps muscle. “The doctor said he’s never seen — you know, in 20 years — he hasn’t seen a tear in the biggest, thickest part of your quad in half. Yeah, it sucked,” he recounted.
Fieri explained that the surgery was crucial to prevent his muscles from receding. “You normally tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears off the bone, but this was right in the center of the whole quad muscle and it exploded,” he said. The timing of the accident was particularly challenging, as it occurred while filming with a crew of 125 people, including various chefs.
Despite the setback, Fieri and his team quickly adapted their filming approach. “We figured out how to pivot through it and to have some creative filming techniques,” he shared. However, he acknowledged that the experience has been a “damper” on production.
Currently, Fieri is using crutches and a wheelchair as part of his recovery process. He is required to stay off his feet for eight weeks, a period that includes wearing a cast and undergoing rehabilitation. “I want to get after it as fast as possible,” he expressed, emphasizing his determination to return to his usual activities.
Reflecting on his past injuries, Fieri humorously noted, “I haven’t busted anything. I mean, I broke it all as a kid.” He recounted various injuries he sustained during his youth, indicating that he has moved past that phase of his life.
As Fieri recuperates at his ranch, known for its outdoor activities, he remains optimistic about his recovery and the future of Flavortown Food Fight. The series is set to showcase culinary competitions, highlighting his passion for food and entertainment. While the accident has posed challenges, Fieri’s resilience and creativity are expected to shine through as production continues.
