Charlie Hall Joins Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monster’ Series on Ed Gein

Charlie Hall has been cast in a recurring role in the upcoming Netflix anthology series “Monster,” created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. This third season will focus on Ed Gein, portrayed by Charlie Hunnam. The series is expected to explore the chilling story of Gein, who was known as the “Butcher of Plainfield” and the “Plainfield Ghoul.” In the 1950s, Gein confessed to murdering two women and was suspected of exhuming corpses to create trophies from their remains.
Gein’s notorious crimes have had a profound impact on popular culture. His story inspired the character of Leatherface in the 1974 horror classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and influenced Robert Bloch‘s novel Psycho, which was later adapted into a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Gein is also thought to have inspired the character of Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs.
Hall’s Role and Gein’s Investigation
In “Monster,” Hall will portray Deputy Frank Worden, whose mother, Bernice Worden, was Gein’s final victim. Deputy Worden, alongside Waushara County Sheriff Arthur Schley, was instrumental in discovering the remains of his mother at their family hardware store. This pivotal moment played a crucial role in Gein’s identification and subsequent arrest.
The series marks a reunion for Hall and Murphy, who previously worked together on “Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” where Hall played a significant role as Craig Cignarelli, the best friend of Erik Menendez.
A Star-Studded Cast and Series Success
The cast of the upcoming season also includes Laurie Metcalf as Gein’s mother, Augusta, and Tom Hollander as Hitchcock. Other notable actors include Olivia Williams, Addison Rae, and Suzanna Son in undisclosed roles. The first installment of the “Monster” series, which focused on serial killer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer, reached No. 3 on Netflix’s Top 10 list of popular English-language programs.
Hall is no stranger to the screen, having also appeared in HBO Max‘s “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” and recently returning for the second season of Freeform‘s “Single Drunk Female.” His upcoming projects include a series regular role in Apple‘s “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed,” created by David J. Rosen, as well as a role in the feature film “Sweethearts” alongside Kiernan Shipka.
With a growing body of work that includes appearances in Peacock‘s “Bel-Air” and the Disney+ series “Big Shot,” Hall continues to rise in the entertainment industry. He is represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
