Slam Frank Musical Extends Run in NYC Through November 16

The acclaimed musical Slam Frank will extend its run for an additional two weeks at Asylum NYC, following a successful debut that sold out performances. This innovative production, which reimagines the story of Anne Frank through an intersectional, multiethnic, genderqueer, Afro-Latin-hip-hop lens, will now run through November 16, 2025. To accommodate demand, the show will add performances at 7:00 PM from Tuesday to Saturday.
Creator and composer Andrew Fox, who has been described as a “master troll,” will continue his dual role as “The Director” and “Mr. Van Daan.” Critics have hailed Slam Frank as one of the most provocative theatrical experiences of the year. Former New York Times critic Ben Brantley called it “the most important show around,” praising its bold approach to storytelling.
A Bold Theatrical Experience
The production has garnered attention for its satirical yet thoughtful examination of identity and humanity. Zachary Stewart from TheaterMania encouraged theatergoers to experience the show, stating, “If you love the theater and want it to once again be a safe space for dangerous thought, the best thing you can do is buy a ticket to Slam Frank and laugh your ass off.” Ben Kawaller of the UK Times added that the show “skewers the absurdity of tribalism while championing our common humanity.”
Inspired by a viral Twitter thread questioning whether Anne Frank acknowledged her white privilege, Slam Frank imagines a progressive community theater company transforming Frank’s story into a contemporary musical. The result is a production that invites audiences to engage in critical dialogue, blending humor with serious themes.
Creative Team and Cast
Fox conceived and co-wrote the show with Joel Sinensky, drawing inspiration from real-life statements and online discussions. The production is directed by Sam LaFrage and features a talented cast, including Olivia Bernábe as Anita (Anne), Alex Lewis as Peter, and Anya van Hoogstraten as Margot. Other notable cast members include Austen Horne as Edith and Rocky Paterra as Otto.
The production team is rounded out by Associate Director Emily Abrams, Music Director Alex Harrington, and Choreographer Nico DeJesus, among others. Nikita Chernin serves as Production Stage Manager, ensuring the show runs smoothly.
Tickets for Slam Frank are priced between $60 and $120, with $20 standby tickets available at the venue, subject to availability. The performances take place at Asylum NYC, located at 123 East 24th Street, New York City, and the show runs for approximately 110 minutes.
As Slam Frank continues to spark national conversations, Fox remains committed to his role, stating, “Acting is like being a surgeon of the human soul. If I do my job right, this performance could change the world.” Producer Yuriy Pavlish emphasized Fox’s unique talent, saying, “Who else in this business can write a full-length historical hip-hop musical and be its leading man? Nobody, that’s who.”
