Skyline Chili Introduces New Chicken Chili Menu Item in Ohio
The Ohio-based fast-food chain Skyline Chili is set to expand its menu with a new offering: chicken chili. Starting on September 22, 2023, this item will be available at select locations in Columbus and at Kroger stores in the Cincinnati area, as announced via the company’s social media platforms.
Skyline Chili, known for its distinctive chili and cheese-covered spaghetti, is a beloved institution in Ohio, boasting approximately 140 locations across the state. Although the chain’s signature chili is traditionally made with beef, the introduction of chicken chili aims to attract a broader customer base and cater to various dietary preferences.
Expansion Plans and Market Reach
The new chicken chili will be exclusively available in certain areas of Ohio, specifically targeting customers in Columbus and Cincinnati. This strategic move signifies Skyline’s efforts to innovate while remaining grounded in its regional roots. While the nearest Skyline location to Cleveland was previously in Lyndhurst, this location closed in December 2023, leaving fans in the area seeking alternatives.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the decision to introduce chicken chili reflects a growing trend in the fast-food sector towards offering diverse menu options. The chain has been proactive in adapting to changing consumer preferences, which could enhance its competitive stance in the regional market.
Acknowledgments and Previous Rankings
Skyline Chili has received accolades for its offerings, particularly in a USA Today survey that named it the best regional fast-food chain in the United States, surpassing renowned competitors like In-N-Out Burger and Whataburger. However, the chain faced criticism in a separate survey conducted by cleveland.com in 2022, where it ranked poorly among nine restaurants in a chili taste test.
As Skyline Chili tests this new chicken chili, the response from its loyal customer base will likely determine its future in the menu lineup. With fast-food chains continuously evolving to include more options, Skyline’s latest addition may resonate well with both traditional fans and newcomers alike.
