Western United Fish Company, a seafood wholesaler based in Washington state, has initiated a recall of more than 3,000 pounds of Kirkland Signature brand Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke sold at Costco locations nationwide. This action, announced on September 20, 2023, is due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious infections.

Details of the Recall

The recalled product includes 3,314.7 pounds of tuna poke, identified by Costco Item Number 17193 and a sell-by date of September 22, 2023. These items are packaged in clear plastic clamshell containers displaying the Kirkland Signature brand label, with a package date of September 18, 2023.

Western United Fish Company stated that the recall was prompted by a notification from their green onion supplier, which reported a positive test result for Listeria in green onions that were exclusively used in the Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke on September 17, 2023. The company is collaborating with the supplier to investigate the source of the contamination.
