Starbucks Closes Six Baltimore Locations Amid Major Restructuring
Starbucks is set to close six locations in Baltimore, impacting local coffee enthusiasts who may need to travel further for their favorite beverages. The closures will take effect on Sunday, with the affected stores located in neighborhoods including Federal Hill, downtown, Mid-Town Belvedere, Washington Hill, Fells Point, and Canton.
The specific locations scheduled to shut down include:
– 2500 Boston St.
– 31 S. Broadway
– 1209 N. Charles St.
– 1100 S. Charles St.
– 100 E. Pratt St.
– 250 W. Pratt St.
This decision comes as part of a broader strategy by the Seattle-based company to restructure its operations amid declining sales. According to the Associated Press, Starbucks plans to close hundreds of its cafes across the United States, Canada, and Europe, resulting in a layoff of approximately 900 nonretail employees.
Starbucks currently operates around 30 locations in Baltimore, and the closures will reduce that number significantly. Some customers have reported receiving notifications about the closures through social media channels, although Starbucks did not provide immediate comments on the matter.
The company is investing $1 billion in its restructuring efforts, which will include costs related to employee separation benefits and expenses associated with closing stores and exiting leases. As of Sunday, Starbucks anticipates having 18,300 locations across North America, a decrease from 18,734 locations reported as of June 29.
This shift reflects Starbucks’ ongoing efforts to adapt to changing market conditions and consumer preferences. The closures in Baltimore are part of a larger trend that could reshape the landscape of coffee retail in the region.
