“Superman” Premieres on HBO This Week with Exciting Features
Fans of the iconic superhero can look forward to the television debut of James Gunn’s blockbuster film “Superman” on HBO this Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET. For those eager to watch the film earlier, it will be available for streaming on HBO Max starting a day prior, on September 19, 2025. Gunn announced the news via social media, sharing a snapshot featuring the film’s lead actor, David Corenswet, along with a preview on the streaming app.
The writer and director expressed his excitement with a post that included the message: “#Superman is available on @StreamOnMax Friday!” Additionally, a special version of the film featuring American Sign Language (ASL) will be exclusively accessible on HBO Max on the same date.
Exclusive Features and Box Office Success
For subscribers to HBO Max, the platform will introduce several “Superman”-themed updates. The homepage will be transformed into a “Daily Planet” layout, complete with a dedicated “Fortress of Solitude” page showcasing themed content. Users can also discover secret portals leading to Lex Luthor’s Pocket Prison, enhancing the interactive experience.
Since its theatrical release on July 11, 2025, “Superman” has enjoyed significant commercial success, grossing approximately $615 million at the box office, according to IGN. The film chronicles the journey of a young Clark Kent, portrayed by Corenswet, as he embraces his identity as a hero and develops a romantic relationship with his colleague at the Daily Planet, Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan. The cast also includes notable actors such as Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, and Wendell Pierce.
A Sequel in the Works
Earlier this month, Gunn revealed plans for a sequel titled “Man of Tomorrow,” scheduled for theatrical release on July 9, 2027. During an interview with Howard Stern, Gunn shared insights about the sequel’s plot, which will feature both Lex Luthor and Superman collaborating to confront a formidable new threat. He described the film as “as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie,” indicating a deeper exploration of the characters and their dynamics.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming television premiere and the sequel, “Superman” continues to capture the imagination of audiences around the world, reaffirming the enduring appeal of this legendary superhero.
