Walnut Creek Man, 77, Arrested for Attempted Battery
A 77-year-old resident of Walnut Creek was arrested last month on suspicion of battery after allegedly attempting to hug and kiss a woman through her open car window. Authorities report that Mohammed Shaikh, a registered sex offender, was taken into custody following the woman’s identification of him from a photo lineup.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on July 26, 2023, as the woman was leaving her apartment on Sunne Lane. According to police, Shaikh approached the victim, blocking her exit from her parking space. He then walked around to her car, introduced himself, and made an unsolicited advance for a kiss. The woman successfully swatted his hand away but reported that he grabbed her shoulder in the process.
Following the incident, the woman reported the encounter to law enforcement. Upon reviewing a photo lineup, she identified Shaikh, leading to the issuance of a misdemeanor arrest warrant. Police arrested him shortly thereafter.
Criminal History
Shaikh has a lengthy history of legal issues dating back to 1970, with multiple arrests for lewd behavior, some involving minors. His most recent conviction occurred in 2024, when he was sentenced to 364 days in jail for misdemeanor sexual battery and false imprisonment. That conviction also resulted in a two-year probation period, according to court records.
As of now, Shaikh has not been formally charged in connection with the latest incident. His ongoing legal troubles raise serious concerns about community safety, particularly given his status as a registered sex offender.
The Walnut Creek community is now left to grapple with the implications of this incident, as residents seek to ensure their safety in the face of such alarming behavior.
