SF Giants Fan Makes a Splash Arriving by Water Taxi at Oracle Park
A San Francisco Giants fan made headlines on August 28, 2025, when he arrived at Oracle Park via a water taxi, attracting considerable attention during the game against the Chicago Cubs. The event unfolded in McCovey Cove, drawing gasps and cheers from spectators as the fan disembarked and casually walked into the ballpark.
The incident was broadcast live during the first inning of the game, with Giants broadcasters Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow providing commentary. The footage quickly captured the imagination of fans, with Krukow remarking, “That’s door-to-door service right there.” As the video circulated on social media, it gained significant traction, becoming one of the most talked-about posts on various platforms.
According to SFGate, the fan’s arrival was not just a whimsical moment; he was confirmed to be an off-duty boat captain. Jamie Horton, a dispatcher for Westar Marine Services, explained that the captain had just completed a drop-off of a ship at an anchoring spot in the Bay. Horton expressed his delight at the unexpected publicity, stating, “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s awesome.’ I guess all publicity is good publicity.”
Westar Marine Services operates its water taxi service from its base near Oracle Park at Pier 50. Horton elaborated on the unique circumstances of the drop-off, noting that the captain requested a ride to the game after anchoring. “We could literally throw a rock to the ballpark,” he stated, highlighting the proximity of the service to Oracle Park.
While Westar typically follows a designated route around the Bay, this particular drop-off was a rare exception. The playful arrival of the fan added a touch of excitement to the evening’s proceedings, underscoring the community spirit that often surrounds Giants games.
This lighthearted moment serves as a reminder of the creative ways fans can make their mark, whether through a traditional entrance or a splashy arrival by water taxi. It has left a lasting impression on those who witnessed it, illustrating the joy and camaraderie found in the world of sports.
