Anthony Weiner Predicts Inevitable Endorsement for Mamdani in NYC Mayoral Race

Former Congressman Anthony Weiner has made a striking prediction regarding the New York City mayoral race, asserting that leading Democrats will ultimately endorse the leftist candidate Zohran Mamdani. Appearing on the radio program “The Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 AM, Weiner stated it is “inevitable” that high-profile party leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, will lend their support to Mamdani, despite some reluctance from more moderate party members.

Weiner, whose political career was marred by scandals, emphasized that Schumer and Jeffries, as prominent figures in the Democratic Party, cannot remain neutral. He remarked, “At the end of the day, people like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, they are going to have to endorse the nominee of their party,” highlighting the pressure on these leaders to align with the party’s choice.

Moderate Democrats are facing a dilemma, as many are hesitant to support Mamdani due to his far-left views. Weiner suggested that while some members may try to distance themselves from the candidate, party leaders like Schumer and Jeffries will ultimately be compelled to act. “They’ve got the Democratic Party, which has now chosen their nominee,” he explained.

Mamdani’s nomination comes with implications for the broader political landscape, particularly as Democrats prepare for the 2026 midterm elections. Weiner noted that the hesitation from top Democrats stems from concerns about alienating moderate candidates across the country who are crucial for reclaiming control of the House and Senate. He stated, “The reason Chuck and Hakeem have been so slow to endorse Zohran is because they don’t want to harm their moderate candidates.”

As the race intensifies, Republicans are already attempting to connect Democratic rivals with Mamdani in the upcoming municipal elections. Weiner went so far as to predict Mamdani’s victory in the mayoral race, stating, “Unfortunately, or fortunately… I think we’re going to have Zohran Mamdani as the mayor in New York City.”

While two other Democrats—incumbent Mayor Eric Adams and former Governor Andrew Cuomo—are running as independents in the general election, Weiner dismissed their chances of success. He pointed to their inability to compete effectively against Mamdani’s candidacy.

Weiner’s political history is marked by scandal, beginning with his resignation from Congress in 2011 after admitting to sending explicit messages to multiple women. His attempts at a political comeback, including a failed campaign for mayor in 2013, were derailed by further revelations of misconduct. He later pleaded guilty to charges related to sexting with a minor, which resulted in a prison sentence.

Despite his troubled past, Weiner expressed concern about the direction of the Democratic Party, stating, “Right now, the Democratic Party in a lot of parts of New York… is very, very left to the point of falling off the edge of the cliff.” He suggested that mainstream Democrats are increasingly wary of leftist candidates who may emerge in future primaries.

Weiner concluded with a cautionary note regarding the effectiveness of leftist governance, referencing cities like Chicago and San Francisco as examples where progressive leadership has struggled to deliver results. “The bigger problem is what outcomes are we going to get as citizens and taxpayers if these candidates are successful? Unfortunately, it looks like we’re going to find out in New York City,” he stated, leaving the future of the city’s political landscape hanging in the balance.
