Showrunners Explain Shocking Ending of Wednesday Season 2 Part 1

The finale of Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 left audiences reeling with the apparent death of Jenna Ortega‘s titular character. Following this dramatic turn, showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough provided insights into the decision-making process behind this shocking conclusion. In a recent interview, they discussed the show’s direction and hinted at what fans can expect in the upcoming Season 2 Part 2.
Miles Millar explained that the choice to have Wednesday seemingly ‘killed’ was intentional, aiming to create a climactic ending to the first part of the season. Speaking with TVLine, Millar stated, “We really wanted to end the first four with a bang.” He emphasized that the show’s creator, Tim Burton, executed this pivotal sequence exceptionally well, leaving viewers eager for more.
In the series, Wednesday’s fate hangs in the balance after she is thrown from a high window by Tyler, who is in his Hyde form. Both showrunners acknowledged the gravity of this moment. Alfred Gough remarked that Wednesday’s fall was intended to be impactful, contributing to the overall tension of the episode. Millar humorously noted that “if any normal person was thrown out of a window by a monster and landed on that concrete, they’d be a human pancake.”
Despite the dramatic circumstances, Millar expressed confidence that Wednesday will return. He referred to her character as “Teflon,” suggesting that she has a resilience that will see her through the ordeal. He added, “The show is called Wednesday, so I predict that she’ll be back.”
As fans await answers regarding Wednesday’s fate, Season 2 Part 2 is set to premiere on September 3, 2025. The show’s creators appear committed to delivering a story that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, ensuring that viewers remain engaged with the unfolding plot.
With the combination of suspense, dark humor, and unique storytelling, Wednesday continues to captivate its audience, and the anticipation for the next installment is palpable.
