Sal Frelick Activated: Brewers Outfielder Returns from Injury
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick has been activated from the injured list after recovering from a left hamstring injury. His return on July 29, 2023, comes as the Brewers face the Miami Marlins, with Frelick leading off and playing in right field.
To make room for Frelick on the roster, the Brewers optioned infielder Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville. This decision reflects the team’s strategy to bolster their lineup with Frelick’s return. The 25-year-old outfielder has shown impressive performance this season, boasting a .294 batting average, a .354 on-base percentage, a .404 slugging percentage, along with seven home runs, 39 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases across 93 games.
Frelick’s injury occurred during a sliding catch in the Brewers’ final game before the All-Star break, which resulted in his placement on the injured list. His contribution to the team has been significant, as highlighted by Brewers manager Pat Murphy, who stated, “What he brings to the table is special.”
In the meantime, Tyler Black, who celebrated his 25th birthday on the same day as his optioning, recorded two hits and two walks, along with an RBI in three games with the Brewers. Black has participated in 34 minor league games this season, posting a batting average of .242, a .359 on-base percentage, three home runs, 22 RBIs, and five stolen bases.
Frelick’s activation is a vital boost for the Brewers as they aim to strengthen their position in the league. His return not only enhances the team’s offensive capabilities but also brings back an energetic player who has made a noticeable impact throughout the season. As the Brewers continue their campaign, Frelick’s performance will be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike.
