Frank Ragnow Returns to Detroit Lions After Brief Retirement
Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow has reversed his retirement decision and is set to rejoin the Detroit Lions. Ragnow had initially stepped away from the NFL in June after a successful seven-season career with the team, but with the Lions poised for a playoff push, he is making a comeback just in time for the Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers.
The announcement came on November 26, 2024, when the Lions shared a photo of Ragnow on social media, reigniting excitement among fans. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ragnow was officially reinstated from the league’s reserve/retired list and will be placed on the exempt/commissioner permission list. He is expected to take time to regain game shape before stepping back onto the field.
Ragnow’s history with the Lions is notable. He has started 96 games throughout his career and earned a spot in the Pro Bowl for the last three consecutive seasons. Additionally, he was named a second-team All-Pro in both of the last two seasons, solidifying his reputation as one of the league’s top offensive linemen.
As the Lions prepare for their Thanksgiving matchup, they currently hold a record of 7-4 and sit just half a game behind the San Francisco 49ers for the final wild card position in the NFC. They are also trailing the Chicago Bears in the NFC North, with the tiebreaker advantage after previously defeating Chicago this season.
The Lions will face the Packers on November 28, 2024, with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 PM at Ford Field, where the atmosphere is expected to be electric. Following this game, Detroit will host the Dallas Cowboys the following Thursday.
Ragnow’s return is seen as a significant boost for the Lions as they aim to solidify their postseason aspirations. His experience and skill set are anticipated to play a crucial role in the offensive line as the team navigates the demanding schedule ahead.
