Kelsea Ballerini has partnered with Nashville-based perfumer Ranger Station to introduce a new candle, titled ‘Burn the Baggage.’ This product draws inspiration from her popular song “Baggage,” featured on her fifth studio album. The candle aims to encapsulate the feelings associated with healing from heartbreak, combining fragrance elements that evoke comfort and nostalgia.

In an interview, Ballerini reflected on her early memories of scent, stating, “I was a warm vanilla sugar kid. It’s the first thing that I remember loving the smell of.” She describes the aroma of the candle as reminiscent of cozy winter evenings, saying it evokes feelings of being enveloped in fuzzy socks and a big oversized sweater. The artist emphasizes that this candle is more than just a fragrance; it serves as a metaphor for moving on after a breakup.

The unique scent journey offers a blend of soft floral notes combined with earthy, woodsy amber tones, created to represent both heartbreak and personal growth. Ballerini notes that once the candle has burned down, the melted wax symbolizes the residual pain of a breakup. “It just felt like the perfect kind of metaphor for a candle,” she said, highlighting that the song “Baggage” has resonated deeply with her audience. Since its release in October 2024, the track has garnered over 48 million streams on Spotify.

To enhance the experience, the candle comes with a complimentary cocktail recipe named “I Rode Off Into the Tequila Sunset,” which references another one of her songs, “First Rodeo.” The drink is intended to complement the candle, creating a multi-sensory experience for fans and consumers alike.

Ballerini’s journey with Ranger Station began over a year ago, long before she officially collaborated with co-founders Steve and Jordan Soderholm. She expressed her admiration for their locally made products, stating, “I’ve always been a fan of their candles, especially being locally made, and by the sweetest husband and wife team.” The Soderholms were equally enthusiastic, making her their first female collaborator after previously partnering with well-known country artists such as Dan and Shay and Noah Kahan.

Steve Soderholm explained the creative process behind the candle’s scent. He described his desire to explore floral elements in a way that avoided the typical overly floral fragrances. “From the beginning, she wanted to tell a story of two things: heartbreak and growth. Burning the baggage and coming out stronger on the other side,” he said. This artistic direction allowed him to blend floral notes with richer, earthy undertones.

The launch of ‘Burn the Baggage’ coincides with the expanded release of Ballerini’s album “Patterns,” which includes two limited deluxe editions. She hopes that the candle will attract not only her fans but also a broader audience. “I hope that people find it just either in Nashville stopping by the Ranger Station store or through Revolve, whether they know and enjoy my music or not. I think it’s a candle that should be on everyone’s bedside table this November,” she remarked.

In a socially conscious move, Ballerini has pledged that ten percent of all proceeds from the candle will be donated to Porter’s Call, a nonprofit organization that provides mental health support for recording artists and their loved ones. This initiative reflects her commitment to supporting mental health within the music community.

As Kelsea Ballerini continues to expand her creative endeavors, ‘Burn the Baggage’ stands as a testament to her artistry and personal experiences, inviting fans to embark on their own journeys of healing.
