Frontier Airlines Ceases Operations at Everett After Seven Months
Frontier Airlines will end its flights from Paine Field Airport (PAE) in Everett, Washington, just seven months after launching service. The airline’s last flights will operate on January 5, 2026, marking the conclusion of a route offering that initially began on June 2, 2025. This decision has been confirmed on Frontier’s official website and was first reported by HeraldNet.
The low-cost carrier provided twice-weekly flights to three destinations: Denver International Airport (DEN), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas. The discontinuation of these routes reflects a potential struggle with demand, as competitive pressures from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) may have influenced the decision. Although the specific reasons for the service termination have not been disclosed, inadequate passenger load factors are likely contributing factors.
Alaska Airlines Expands Its Presence
With Frontier’s departure, Alaska Airlines will solidify its position as the primary airline at Paine Field. Currently, Alaska Airlines operates nonstop flights to eight cities, which include popular destinations such as Honolulu (HNL), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO). Notably, Alaska Airlines will also introduce a new nonstop route to Portland International Airport (PDX) beginning in June 2026.
The impact of Frontier’s exit will be minimal for travelers, as Alaska Airlines already services two of the three routes that Frontier offered. The only route that will be completely removed from Paine Field is to Denver. Alaska Airlines continues to enhance its network with a focus on the West Coast and select sun destinations, making it the dominant carrier at the airport.
Paine Field’s Growing Reputation
Paine Field has gained recognition as one of the top airports in the United States. In 2025, it was ranked fifth in The Washington Post’s list of the 50 Best Airports in America. This evaluation was based on a comprehensive review of over 450 U.S. airports, considering various performance metrics alongside customer reviews.
The airport is noted for its convenience, featuring amenities such as valet parking, a lounge-style terminal, and efficient check-in processes. Modern design elements like floor-to-ceiling windows and fresh floral arrangements contribute to a pleasant travel experience, reinforcing Paine Field’s reputation as a premium yet low-stress airport. Since commencing commercial operations in 2019, Paine Field has welcomed more than 3.4 million passengers, playing a crucial role in the region’s economic development, according to Propeller Airports, which manages the passenger terminal.
As Frontier Airlines prepares to exit, the future of Paine Field looks promising, especially with Alaska Airlines expanding its offerings and maintaining a strong presence at the airport.
