EU Announces Record Military Aid for Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict
The European Union’s commitment to supporting Ukraine has reached unprecedented levels, as stated by EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas during her address to the European Parliament on March 5, 2025. Kallas highlighted that the bloc’s 27 member states have collectively provided nearly €169 billion (approximately $198.7 billion) in financial support since the onset of the full-scale war in 2022.
In her remarks, Kallas emphasized that military assistance has constituted a significant portion of this support. She reported that over €63 billion has been allocated specifically for military aid to Ukraine. Notably, Kallas announced that the EU member states are set to deliver more military aid this year than ever before, with contributions totaling more than €25 billion to date.
EU’s Target for Ammunition Supplies
Kallas also addressed the EU’s efforts to supply ammunition to Ukraine, revealing that member states have met 80% of the target to deliver 2 million rounds to Kyiv. The EU aims to achieve a complete supply by October 2025, underscoring the urgency of the situation. “We aim for 100% by October,” she stated.
The underlying purpose of this extensive aid, Kallas explained, is to enable Ukraine to defend itself and protect its civilians against ongoing aggression. This significant military support reflects the EU’s unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and security during a critical period in its history.
The European Parliament convened in Strasbourg, France, where Kallas reiterated the importance of continued support for Ukraine. As the conflict persists, the EU’s strategic aid strategy aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities and ensure the safety of its population against external threats.
