Afghanistan Claims 58 Pakistani Soldiers Killed in Border Clash
Afghanistan’s military has reported the deaths of 58 Pakistani soldiers following overnight border operations. The Afghan government claims these actions were a direct response to what it described as ongoing violations of its territory and airspace. In contrast, the Pakistani military has provided a lower casualty estimate, stating that 23 of its troops were killed in the incidents.
Escalating Tensions at the Border
The conflict has heightened tensions between the two nations. Earlier in the week, Afghan authorities accused Pakistan of conducting airstrikes on Kabul and a marketplace in eastern Afghanistan. While Kabul has condemned these actions, Pakistan has neither confirmed nor denied involvement in the alleged bombings.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the chief spokesman for the Taliban government, announced on Sunday that Afghan forces had captured 25 military posts belonging to Pakistan during the operations. He added that approximately 30 Pakistani soldiers sustained injuries during the clashes.
The situation at the border has remained volatile, with both sides exchanging accusations. As Afghanistan continues to navigate its security challenges, the Taliban government faces criticism over its handling of cross-border relations.
The international community is closely monitoring the developments, as a prolonged conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan could have broader implications for regional stability.
