A tragic incident occurred on Thursday when a jet registered to NASCAR driver Greg Biffle crashed at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina, resulting in multiple fatalities. The crash took place at approximately 10:20 a.m., leading to flames engulfing the aircraft shortly after impact. Officials from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatalities, but the exact number of victims has not yet been disclosed.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, as reported by 13News Now. The aircraft involved in the crash is a Cessna C550, which was attempting to land at the airport when the incident occurred. It remains unclear how many individuals were aboard the jet at the time of the crash, according to WSB-TV.
Witnesses reported concerning observations prior to the crash. A bystander at the nearby Lakewood Golf Club described seeing the jet flying “way too low” before it went down. This account raises questions about the circumstances leading up to the accident.
As investigations continue, officials are expected to provide more information regarding the passengers and crew on board the jet. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified and will be involved in the investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
The tragic event has raised concerns within the aviation community and among fans of Greg Biffle, a prominent figure in NASCAR. The implications of this crash resonate beyond the immediate loss, prompting discussions about aviation safety and regulations.
