Authorities in Texas have seized thirty handguns and arrested two individuals during an inspection at the Anzalduas Port of Entry, believed to be destined for Mexico. The operation took place on Wednesday at approximately 09:30, when agents from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), in collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations, conducted a search of a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck.

During the inspection, officials discovered the handguns concealed within a spare tire. Among the seized weapons was a 5.7-caliber FN Herstal, recognized for its capability to penetrate body armor, along with sixty magazines and one speed loader. According to the DPS, this particular firearm has earned the nickname “cop-killer” due to its dangerous ammunition.

The firearms were reportedly intended for Guanajuato, a region in Mexico where firearms ownership is stringently regulated. The driver of the vehicle, Luis Torres Mujica, aged 30 and a resident of Guanajuato, along with his passenger, Jesse Joe Camacho, aged 28 from McAllen, Texas, now face serious charges of theft of property and firearm smuggling, classified as a second-degree felony under Texas law.

The seizure underscores ongoing concerns regarding the flow of illegal firearms across the U.S.-Mexico border. In recent years, authorities have intensified efforts to combat gun smuggling, particularly as violence associated with drug cartels continues to escalate in Mexico.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing illegal activities at border crossings, as weapons are often concealed in creative ways to evade detection. The collaboration between various federal agencies reflects a unified approach to address these pressing issues.

As investigations proceed, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to secure the border and prevent the illegal transfer of firearms that could contribute to violence in neighboring regions.
